Monica Bilboul, Ph.D.

Director

Monica Bilboul, Ph.D. is a New York State licensed clinical psychologist working primarily with adolescents and adults. Aside from work as a private practitioner, she is a staff psychologist at Lutheran Medical Center. Dr. Bilboul provides psychological services to teenagers and adults with a variety of psychiatric conditions. Additionally, she conducts bariatric evaluations prior to weight loss surgery and leads bariatric support groups. Dr. Bilboul received her B.A. with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her doctoral degree in psychology from St. John’s University. Dr. Bilboul has worked primarily in New York City hospitals and outpatient clinics, treating a diverse range of psychological disorders including anxiety, depression, and psychosis. She has done extensive work in the treatment of adults diagnosed with co-occuring medical and psychiatric problems. Within a hospital setting, Dr. Bilboul has also implemented cognitive-behavioral treatment to youth with obesity. She assisted Hispanic patients in improving fitness and eating behaviors in the context of socio-cultural challenges.

Dr. Bilboul’s research experience includes topics such as adolescent depression, substance abuse, and physical appearance self-concept. Her research contributions have been presented at national conferences and meetings. She has publications in peer reviewed journals on subjects related to psychosocial adjustment and self-concept in adolescents with craniofacial disfigurements. With her conversational Spanish skills, Dr. Bilboul has provided treatment for monolingual Hispanic patients. She is a member or supporter of the American Psychological Association, Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the New York State Psychological Association.
